Credit Score Errors

Every day, America's three largest credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) must handle more than 100 million new pieces of data. Errors are bound to happen given the volume of data being managed. Errors typically happen when a report is deficient or contains information about someone else. Typically, this occurs because:

• Someone used a different name when applying for credit
• On a credit application, a clerical error was made when entering a name or an address
• An inaccurate Social Security number was entered on a credit application
• Unintentionally, a credit card or loan payment was placed to the incorrect account
